I was sitting on the couch watching the olympics with my girlfriend, obviously working at the same time because if I wasn’t #hustling I was probably falling behind. We were watching a race, and I couldn’t believe how close the top 4 competitors were. The 4th place guy was only a fraction of a second behind. You had to watch the replay in slow motion to see who even won. Later, the top 3 were on the podium, bringing home medals to their home countries. The fourth place though… no where to be found.
Fourth place in the Olympics, what do they get? They might be one or 2 seconds behind first place, and they get nothing.
None of the fame, none of the rewards, none of the money.
But first place might be just 1 second ahead and just 1 second slower is fourth place, and they get none of the rewards. So marketing is the same way
Marketing works just like the olympics.... If you’re not first, you might as well be last
If you can just get a little edge over the rest of your competition, you get outsized returns and you can actually dominate.
So you might make ten times the money over your competitor because your marketing is 1% better, right?
1% better is not 1% more money.

So I did something crazy.... I hired one of the best marketers on the planet for $25,000 to critique my marketing
At first, it didn’t seem worth it at all. He made small little tweaks that to me, didn’t even look like he changed anything. What was I paying for? But over time, I started to notice the difference. I started to see that changing a word here, or a sentence there actually had a big impact… just like shaving a fraction of a second off your time in the olympics. Before I knew it, I was making over $200k a month! I had paid more than I ever thought I’d pay someone… $25k, but it paid back more than 10x over. I went on to win my first two comma club award with that funnel.
Then something else happened... I started hiring people.
I replaced customer support at first, and realized what it felt like to be a business owner who doesn’t have to do everything. Then I replaced operations, video editing, outreach and research. I even got someone to help me make my products and service. The LAST thing I tried to replace was MARKETING… But it failed miserably. I figured I just hired the wrong person, so I tried again, and same result. No matter how hard I tried, I could replace everything in my business EXCEPET marketing. I realized that paying my mentor 25k, then $50,000 a year had turned me in to a master marketer and I didn’t even realize it.
